1.Unify your branding and marketing efforts.

In today’s connected world, there are many channels through which businesses reach their audience. It’s critical to ensure your brand and marketing efforts are unified and coherent across these channels while remaining optimized to each specific platform. Disjointed marketing efforts, or those that focus heavily on one channel while neglecting others, will ultimately discredit your message.

2. Increase your legal and regulatory awareness.

Regulation is often the bane of a small business’s existence, but that doesn’t make staying on top of all the changes in the legal landscape any less important. 3. Educate all employees

To hold employees accountable, have each employee sign a document stating that they have been informed of the policies and understand that actions may be taken if they do not follow security policies.

4. Enforce safe password practices

Yes, employees find changing passwords to be a pain. However, the number one way that data is compromised is through lost/stolen passwords. Slowly, as multifactor login becomes more normal for all businesses, making up new passwords will become less of an issue. In the meantime, it is best to change all your business/employee passwords every 90 days on average.

5. Use multifactor identification

Regardless of your preparation, an employee will likely make a security mistake that can compromise your data. The solution here is for ALL businesses to begin using multi-factor login for any business application that allows it (and ideally switching over to platforms that do allow it if you are currently using applications without strict password guidelines). In our opinion, any business software company that doesn’t take security seriously, probably isn’t keeping your data that safe either.

Multi-factor requires both a password and a one-time use pin number from a device in the employees’ possession. This reduces the chance of passwords and company data falling into the wrong hands to almost non-existent.
